My work is a reflection of a lifelong passion for art, painting and color.  I express my feelings on canvas in order to share them with others and convey my concern for the vanishing countryside.  Capturing the magic of nature is the challenge.

I was raised in an artistic family and if you wanted a painting, you painted one.  If you wanted music, you played an instrument and made your own music.  One of my earliest memories at the holidays was hand painting the family Christmas cards with my Mother.  Today, color inspires me to paint a variety of subjects related to our woods, lakes, streams, old barns and farms, and life as I remember it from my childhood.

From the initial spark of an idea, my paintings incorporate a combination of textures, mood and light spoken to me by the subject matter.   Although I paint outdoors when I can, my work is mostly created from photos I have taken or pictures I have collected over the years.  I also find I become so involved with flow of the paints and colors that I am creating new ideas from the picture that was my inspiration.  It's that splash of color that speaks to me.

As with most artists, I continue to be a student of art, always reaching for a higher level of excellence or another way of expressing my impression of nature. If the excitement I feel for the subject and the magic of the process come through in my painting then hopefully it speaks to the viewer as well.   While my earlier art is an attempt at realism, my recent works are becoming more abstract.  The more abstract images have deeper personal meaning to me than making a tree look like a tree.

Painting for me is about sharing our life experiences. The relationships we develop with artists and those who appreciate art itself becomes an important part of our growth.
