“To create is a passion. There is not enough in one medium, one style or subject to fulfill my creative desires.”
Joan Garcia, an artist new to the Tampa Bay area, has artwork in corporate and private collections both nationally and internationally. Having lived in Miami, Costa Rica, Texas and now Lutz, she has been working professionally in fine art, portraiture, murals and graphic arts for approximately 25 years. She has been in numerous shows in the South Florida area winning both patron and Best of Show awards.
Volunteer work has also opened her talents to various opportunities from drawing macaws to benefit Amigos de las Aves in Alajuela, Costa Rica, to students and teachers in various school systems in Miami, Costa Rica and Texas, as well as a six month mural project for the Children’s Advocacy Center of Central Texas.
Art was always part of her life, and her body of work stretches from realistic landscapes and still life paintings in acrylics, to portraits in colored pencil and architectural residence renderings in pen and ink.
Having originally trained in fashion illustration and design this new series featuring dancers in an abstract/realistic manner seems to bring her talents full circle. The realism of the beautiful women and the abstract quality of their costume brings movement and vibrancy to this series.
