Lloyd Johnson Bio

I was introduced to art at an early age in Lawrence grade school whose library was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. I didn’t understand until much later in life that I had acquired a creative interest that may never have developed had I not been influenced by the designs of this master architect. Like a child that is born into extreme poverty or extreme wealth, I accepted my surroundings as the norm until life experiences taught me that my grade school’s library was extraordinary and had actually influenced the way I visually perceived almost everything with which I came in contact.

Maturing, I began to appreciate elements that were abstract and expressed motion and speed, light, form and function. I gained an interest in mechanics and machines, space, futuristic concepts, total design and craftsmanship. I developed a unique sense of balance, proportion, color and style. Over the years I have been intrigued by all things modern, art deco and streamlined. My art has been heavily influenced by these styles. I love to use angles, colors, surfaces and light when designing works of decorative art and art furniture pieces.

I spent my youth in Illinois and majored in engineering in junior college, later obtaining a Bachelors Degree in Mathematical Systems and Computer Science from the University of Illinois at Springfield. Most of my adult life has been spent in the corporate world with artistic interests being pursued in leisure time for my own personal enjoyment. My early career was concentrated around computer aided mechanical design where I was able to hone my artistic expression, learn valuable spatial concepts and develop creative and manufacturing skills.

I have found it very difficult to locate and purchase articles for my personal use that possess the artistic qualities I find appealing. When I do find objects that meet my standards they often don’t fit my budget. Fortunately my educational and professional background has taught me valuable skills that have allowed me to conceptualize and create many of the art objects I now display in my own home.

Utilizing skills developed before retiring from corporate life I have been able to draw on the expertise of knowledgeable professionals to assist in developing techniques for economically creating some of my more complex art concepts. For the first time in my life I am finding the time to share some of these designs with fellow art aficionados. My goal is to produce high quality art objects at reasonable cost for display in discriminating homes and businesses.
