Carole Flagg was born and raised in Chicago, IL, moving to Scarsdale,
NY in her teens. She graduated with a major in Drama from Bradford
College in Haverill, MA, and later turned to the study of Fine Arts.
She pursued a wide range of courses at the Newark, (NJ), School of Fine
and Industrial Arts. While raising her two children, she worked with
woodcut printing, took the Famous Artists Course, studied with
prominent local artists in New Jersey, attended the Creative Art Guild
and the Art Alliance, and studied Graphics Arts at Monmouth College in
Long Branch, NJ. Carole’s study of the impressionists left an impact
on her which infuses into much of her work.
After moving to Florida in 1985, she continued to study painting and
drawing with several local artists, the Palm Harbor Arts Center, (where
she also taught pencil drawing), and the Dunedin Fine Arts Center,
where she is a member. She also studied painting with the
internationally renowned artist, Alan Banks, at Atelier Plein Air in
Safety Harbor for two years, and studied Print Making at the University
of South Florida Extended Learning Center. She also teaches a variety
of media, and maintains her studio in Tampa.
When I paint, I am after something beyond the technical approach to
art. I want to invoke a response in the viewer that is at a deeper
level than the visual alone. It is hard to explain, but I am always
striving for this illusive quality in my approach to everyday things we
see.
She has earned two Best of Show awards, a first place Blue Ribbon, and
other awards at the Dunedin Fine Arts Center shows.
