"RED GALAXIE" is the first of a wall art series constructed of pattern etched aluminum backgrounds enhanced by kiln cast, hand cut, pure glass tiles.

 

The background is made from 1/8 inch thick aluminum plate engraved with a computer generated double helix design. The design is very reflective and the pattern appears to move as the viewer passes by the work. The light reflected off the background is enhanced under natural sunlight and is extremely brilliant if viewed outdoors. The work takes on a completely different character and reflective quality if viewed under colored lighting.

 

Color is added to the work with a series of  hand cut, kiln cast, pure glass tiles in red and black enhanced with a bright gold metallic band.

 

This piece is presented on a mat black background so that it will contrast with the neutral walls found in most homes and businesses. The entire work is framed in a 2” black frame. The aluminum disk is mounted approximately 1” in front of the mat black background and gives the appearance of “floating” off the wall.

 

The finished work measures approximately 32” X 32”.
