About the Artist - Carol J. Northington
Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Carol studied art and design at the University of North Texas as well as the University of Texas in Austin. She later attained a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management at Rutgers University. She married her high school sweetheart, Leo, and moved to New Jersey. Together, they raised their two children, Gina and Jamal.
Carol and Leo retired in 2005 and moved to Tampa where once again Carol pursued her art career.
Carol paints primarily with acrylics and creates a variety of textures. She experiments with a range of mediums including charcoal, and explores mixed media to create varying textures and moods. Carol's abstract focus is that of design and color, her character and portrait work reflects this style as well. Subject matter includes free from abstractions, people, animals, and flowers.
She is the current President of the North Tampa Arts League. Her work has been exhibited at the Carrollwood Cultural Center, The Great Frame Up, Beck Gallery, the New Tampa Library where she was artist of the Month (August 2007 & February 2009), Jimmie Keel Library, Exclusive Clientele Salon, the Wine Harvest and The Jewelry Studio.
Artist’s Statement: “I bring a different interpretation and perspective in reproducing a subject. I want the viewer to have either an emotional reaction or be able to see many different things when they look at my art.”
