Desiree D'Alessandro's Bio
----------------------------------------------

As an emerging artist and full-time student, my artistic experience has been propelled by college-level art course enrollment, local exhibitions, and press publications. I am developing and broadening my abilities through exploration of various methodologies and media, such as drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, and digital media. I plan to obtain a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Studio Art with a minor in Art History from the University of South Florida, a Master of Fine Arts degree from University of California, and ultimately, a Doctorates degree in Visual Studies/Art Theory.

WORK SUMMARY

Initially, my two-dimensional artworks embodied the beauty of reality in a representational manner. Then, keeping with traditional elements, my art steered toward self-expression and exploration as a series of self-portraits progressed in terms of modernist artworks. Now, my developing portfolio is also inclusive of three-dimensional artwork and has entered the conceptual realm where my expression of edgy content acts as an exploitation of topical, political, and global happenings.

STATEMENT

"Life beats down and crushes the soul and art reminds you that you have one."

- Stella Adler

Driven by my insatiable desire to question and explore, I have discovered the realm of art to be best suited for my endeavors. What started as an exploratory exercise has now developed into a creative and emotional outlet as I examine social happenings in juxtaposition to my own personal experiences. It is my aim that through my work, I can better understand myself and the world around me. I choose to practice art and create art to potentially uncover meaning in relationships amongst objects, perspectives, and people. In accordance with the philosophies of Aristotle, I find myself holding most strong to his quote, "The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance."
