Genie Shannon's Bio

Genie Shannon

Professional artist

My love of art was awakened while living in New Mexico. I acquired a strong emotional bond with the landscape and culture of the Southwest and found my inner spirit and a way to express it through art.

My medium has evolved from acrylics to watercolor, which I currently teach in Tampa Fl. My choice of subjects is generally plants and flowers, however I am currently focusing on abstract design using different water mediums. I am also doing a series called “The Mystical World”.

While painting, I retreat to a special place within my soul and the feeling of tranquility helps in the creation of serene paintings. I use rich vibrant colors and begin a painting by feeling the rhythm of the colors as the pigments and water dance on the paper. I exaggerate the colors using my emotions. I try to be expressionistic and impressionistic while remaining within the realm of reality.

My formal education includes courses at The Albuquerque Art Institute, University of New Mexico and the University of South Florida. I have also studied with numerous nationally known artists.

My award winning work has been exhibited in galleries, solo and group shows, art festivals and juried shows.

I am currently serving on the board of the North Tampa Arts League and Water Color Escape Workshop, and a participating member of the National Museum of Women In The Arts.

My paintings are in many private collections nationally and internationally.
