The North Tampa Arts League Artist of the Month for April is Anita Long.

Born in London, Anita grew up in Miami, Florida. Art comes naturally to Anita, as she has been surrounded by artistic people all her life. Encouraged by family, she took every opportunity to draw and paint throughout the years. A student at Pikes Peak Community College in Colorado Springs, Colorado as well as Cuesta Community College in San Luis Obispo, California, Anita studied art and took many art classes. Never truly committed to it though until Anita took a painting course in 2003 at the Temple Terrace Recreation Center.   After that she was hooked.

Painting in acrylic,  her favorite medium, Anita tries to captures the landscapes she encounters.  From the west to the east of the USA, she paints from her travel photos. Everything she sees becoming subject matter for her paintings.  Her panoramic painting of the Colorado mountains was created by connecting numerous images together.  Transforming the photos into a beautiful realistic painting,  depicting  the mountains with attention to detail that makes a stunning rendition of Sangre de Cristo Mountain range in the Rockies.  Another trip took her skiing to the Colorado mountains in the spring and most likely a couple of the photos will wind up in her paintings.

When asked about being a member of the North Tampa Arts League, Anita states, "“I enjoya sharing ideas with other artists and being a part of an exciting organization that is vibrant and committed to making art an integral part of the Tampa community.”"   Not only is Anita a member of NTAL but is also a member of the Tampa Realistic Artists (Old Hyde Park Center).  Being an owner of Business Ink Printing, Anita creates logos and printed materials.  She also enjoys being actively involved volunteering in the community.  With all of this going on in her life, Anita makes time to paint by  squeezing in  free moments during the day at the easel. Usually taking time in her evenings and weekends, she works fast and leans toward smaller works.  Lately the idea of painting out-of-doors, (Plein aire) has brought Anita and her focus outside. These paintings are completed in short periods of time , much like the painters of the impressionistic movement who were capturing the moment.

Prices for Anita’s work range low but competitive starting just under $100.  You can see her work at the Carrollwood Cultural Center at 4537 Lowell Road.  Her work is featured in homes and businesses from Florida to Colorado. Anita’'s work has been shown at the Lisa Morgan Gallery, Old Hyde Park Art Center, New Tampa Regional Library, Jimmie Keel Library, Temple Terrace Library (one person show), and the Beck Gallery. A new venue for Anita is the Tampa Garden Show which accepted two of her paintings last year.

Vacation photos are nice, but a painting would be something you could cherish for years. How about allowing Anita to transform that favorite memory into a painting? You can reach her at 813-988-6159 for more information or check out her gallery on the web at: www.northtampaarts.com
