Arnold Swepson

             Arnold Swepson

I was born in Manhattan, New York on September 20, 1940. My family moved to
Fall River Massachusetts, when I was five years old. Growing up in New England
I  became interested in art at an early age and have been drawing and sketching
since elementary school.
In the 1980s, I became fascinated with oil on canvas painting, and with
encouragement from my uncle Dan Lima, I started  classes at Matt Barros Studio
in Providence, Rhode Island.
After a thirty year career with New England Telephone Company, my wife Vicki and I moved
to the Tampa Bay area. We have three grown children.
My mother's people came to this country in the early 1900s, from the Cape Verde Islands,
a former Portuguese colony off the coast of Africa. Inspired throughout my life by the images
and stories of "the Islands", this inspiration continues to be reflected in my artistic creations.
I am always intrigued and excited about learning new techniques, methods, and mediums.
I interpret my dreams and stories through my paintings and sculptures.
